Blades down 2-0 against Tigers
The Saskatoon Blades are in danger of not playing another home game until the 2013 Memorial Cup.
Saskatoon, which is the host team for the CHL’s championship tournament, has lost its first two games of the 2013 WHL playoffs.
After losing 4-1 to the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers on Thursday, the Blades lamented another setback on Friday, falling 3-0 before 5,944 spectators at the Credit Union Centre.
Tigers goaltender Cam Lanigan was the first star for the second consecutive night. He has made 42 saves in each of the first two games of the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal — which moves to Medicine Hat for games on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Lanigan’s save percentage in the series: .988.
Trevor Cox, Miles Koules and Tyler Lewington (with an empty-netter) scored for the Tigers, who tested Blades goalie Andrey Makarov 42 times.
Also on Friday, the Calgary Hitmen assumed a 2-0 lead in another Eastern Conference quarterfinal by defeating the visiting Swift Current Broncos 3-1.
Cody Sylvester, Greg Chase and Victor Rask scored for the Hitmen before the Broncos’ Adam Lowry finally solved Calgary goaltender Chris Driedger midway through the third period. The Hitmen were outshot 40-23.
The Broncos play host to the Hitmen on Monday and Tuesday. Both games are to begin at 7 p.m.
