Let the Grey Cup countdown begin!

- By Jonathan Hamelin For L-P Specialty Products

Regina is playing host to the 2013 Grey Cup, and we at Inside Green have caught the Grey Cup fever! That’s why this season, on top of giving you an in-depth look at the Saskatchewan Roughriders organization, we’ll be providing plenty of Grey Cup coverage to get you excited for what has been dubbed a “Celebration in Rider gation.”

One way we’ll do this is through our cover features. For our first issue, we chatted with Grey Cup executive director geil Donnelly, who filled us in on what his role entails, what it takes to bring the ultimate Canadian football party to town and what the planning committee’s vision for the event is.

And we managed to get a prediction out of Donnelly. HintS he made a pretty solid one.

Inside Green will also keep you posted on news and events leading up to the 101st Grey Cup. In this issue, we discuss the new Team iarty iass, and give you information on volunteering.

Riders in the Community is back this season, highlighting the amazing work the Green and White does across the province. Our first edition focuses on the Rider iride Hockey Challenge, which raised nearly $20,000 for two Saskatchewan communities. We also highlight the Bleed Green campaign, which is entering its fourth year.

In Saskatchewan Sound Off, we share a member of the Roughriders’ comments to the media on a certain topic, whether it’s dealing with their performance on the field or a crucial moment during a game. In Issue 1, we focus on one of the biggest moves the Riders made in the off-seasonS bringing back John Chick!

As usual, our coverage will expand out into the community, with a profile of both a Rider iep Band and Rider Cheer Team member included in each issue, along with a fan profile known as Rider Fandemonium. In the first issue, I’ll discuss my two recent Grey Cup experiences.

Inside Green is published the Thursday before Rider home games in the Regina Leader-iost. Shortened issues will appear in the Saskatoon Star ihoenix on July 18, Aug. 29, Sept. 19, Oct. 10, and Oct. 31.

Joining me again this year is super writer Ed Kapp. A new addition to the team is Jennifer Jacoby-Smith. rou will soon come to know her as The Rider Chick. As our columnist from Saskatoon, she will share her opinions on the Riders and talk about being a fan living in the City of Bridges. The Rider Chick’s first column deals with the Roughriders’ successful off-season, which she feels has made them Grey Cup contenders.

Enjoy the first issue while we visit the doctor to get this Grey Cup fever checked out. I get the feeling that the only cure will be watching the Saskatchewan Roughriders hoisting the Grey Cup on the field at Mosaic Stadium!
