The 2013 Grey Cup in Regina is already being hailed by some as the party of the year.

But with the introduction of the Team Party Pass, the festivities just got that much better — or at least more convenient for partygoers.

In the past, patrons were expected to pay separate daily admission fees to get into the various team festivities in the three-day lead-up to the finale. The newly introduced Team Party Pass allows pass holders entry into Riderville and the Downtown Party Tent and also the hospitality rooms of the Atlantic Schooners, B.C. Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts.

“The Team Party Pass is an idea that has been discussed at Grey Cup Festivals for a number of years,” said Neil Donnelly, executive director of the 101st Grey Cup Festival. “This announcement is a culmination of months of work and discussion, and we owe a huge thanks to members of the 101st Grey Cup Festival volunteer committee and to the other CFL teams that have joined us in this initiative.

“More importantly, this is a great opportunity for CFL fans looking to experience as much of the Grey Cup Festival experience as possible.”

Also new to this year’s event, the hospitality rooms are to be conveniently situated in one location: Regina’s Evraz Place.

Riderville is slated to be held in the EventPlex, while the team hospitality rooms are to be housed in the arenas comprising the Co-operators Centre.

“Having all the team rooms in one area is great for a number of reasons,” Donnelly noted. “The consumer doesn’t have to go from one end of the city to the other. They don’t have to drive all over and they know that everything is in one place. We have heard from people that they want to experience all of the team suites and see what they have to offer, but they didn’t want to pay and see a venue that wasn’t busy or wasn’t for them.

“I think it will be a great opportunity to spread Grey Cup fever to not just venues like Riderville, but to all of the other teams as well and let everyone see what every team is offering.”

Team Party Passes and single-day tickets are available through a lottery. The passes are to include one dated ticket for each of the three days, which holders are to exchange at the door for a wristband that is good for the day. Tickets may be shared, but the wristbands are non-transferable. Visitors must be 19 years of age or older to attend the festivities.

Leave it to Saskatchewan to assemble a Grey Cup committee that has the true vision of the ultimate fan experience, the fans will recognize that and appreciate it and it could go down as the ‘ultimate fan experience Grey Cup’ of all time, and it will be a model made in Saskatchewan for years to come.”

John Ryerson, who runs the fan-favourite Schooner room, believes that in light of this year’s changes to the event, the 2013 Grey Cup festivities may go down in history as the best yet.

“Leave it to Saskatchewan to assemble a Grey Cup committee that has the true vision of the ultimate fan experience, the fans will recognize that and appreciate it and it could go down as the ‘ultimate fan experience Grey Cup’ of all time, and it will be a model made in Saskatchewan for years to come,” he said.

“The committee has taken the lows out of waiting in line, hoping you can get in and replaced them with highs. This is something that other cities will strive to emulate in future Grey Cups.”
