PRINCE ALBERT — Charges against a Prince Albertarea man have now been upgraded in connection with the death of his son and the attempted murder of another man during a violent altercation last October.

Larry James McDougald is now facing one charge of first-degree murder in the Oct. 29 death of his son Terry.

The accused, 66, was originally charged with seconddegree murder in connection with Terry’s death.

McDougald appeared briefly in Prince Albert provincial court Friday morning. In addition to the murder charge, he is accused of pointing a gun at a third man, discharging a gun and possession of a weapon in relation to the October incident.

Terry McDougald, 45, was found dead at a rural home near Prince Albert around 8 p.m. on Oct. 29. RCMP have said previously that he and his father were engaged in an ongoing property dispute.

Police say Terry McDougald and two other men were at Larry McDougald’s home Oct. 29 intending to claim property. Police allege Larry McDougald shot and killed his son and fired at another man during an altercation.

Larry McDougald is scheduled to return to court next Friday. His defence lawyer said he hopes to set a preliminary hearing date in the case.
