Capitals remain perfect in 2014

The Extreme Hockey Regina Capitals extended their winning streak to six games with victories on Friday and Saturday night in Prairie Junior Hockey League action.

The Capitals haven’t lost since Dec. 20, when they were beaten 5-1 by the Traveland RV Storm.

Regina topped the visiting Delisle Chiefs 3-2 on Friday and the hometown Saskatoon Westleys 5-2 on Saturday.

Tye Exner potted two goals on Friday. Jesse Manastrysk­i also scored for the winners. Kevin Orthner made 32 saves for the win.

On Saturday, Cole Hoffart scored twice for Regina. The Capitals also got singles from Exner, Mackenzie Turlock and Eric Duran.

Braven MacPherson stopped 29 shots for Regina.

The Regina Rebels finished the Shaftesbur­y Titans Winter Classic female midget AAA hockey tournament in Winnipeg with a tie and a loss.

Tatum Shand had a 14-save shutout in a 0-0 tie against the Balmoral Hall Hawks on Saturday.

The Rebels lost 1-0 in a quarterfin­al against the Pursuit of Excellence Black. Summer Roberts stopped 26 shots.

The Moose Jaw Generals defeated the Regina Pat Canadians 5-3 on Saturday in Saskatchew­an Midget AAA Hockey League play.

Donavan Neuls, Rykr Cole, Braydon Delorme, Caleb Reiss and Dawson Davidson scored for Moose Jaw. Adam Edmands, Cohen Yano and Tyler Adams replied for the Pat Canadians.

Colby Entz stopped 25 shots for Moose Jaw. Cameron Pateman made 26 saves for Regina.

Tournament MVP Brayden Kuski poured in 39 points Saturday to help the LeBoldus Golden Suns down the Balfour Redmen 114-55 in the boys final of the Balfour Junior Basketball Classic.

Eric Despins had 18 points for Balfour.

In the girls final, Brooklyn Reynolds — who also was named MVP — scored 19 points as the Miller Marauders beat the Sheldon-Williams Spartans 58-53.

Alyssa Starr had 17 points for the Spartans.

Humboldt’s William Dutton placed seventh overall in the Essent ISU World sprint speed-skating championsh­ips in Nagano, Japan on Sunday.

Dutton placed fifth in the opening 500-metre competitio­n and fourth in the 1,000m on Saturday.

Dutton is to represent Canada in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.
