Have a Dream Day

We celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. today in a floating holiday to commemorate his birth, which was on Jan. 15, 1929. The civil rights leader, Nobel Peace Prize winner and great American orator was born when Mercury, the planet of communication, was in Aquarius, a sign associated with humanity, imagination and vision.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Gaining a measure of control over your response to events is no small victory. Today it will be the only victory that matters. Your life will change because you change your responses.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Sometimes talking is doing something. Other times, talking is doing nothing. You’ll be exposed to both active and inactive talk. If you know the difference, you’ll be as productive as you want to be.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You won’t be able to stay still, because life’s music will move you. Metaphorically, you have a passion for dancing, and this choromania will make you extremely popular on the flashing floor of life.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Appearances will matter even more than usual. People will be in the mood to make value assessments. It will be easier to put your best foot forward when said foot is wearing a very good shoe.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Ferrets kill vermin, too, and yet for centuries the house pet/ rodent extermination role has gone prevailingly to cats. You have the aloof, regal feline attitude today that will have people choosing you over the other options.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). It goes best for you when you show up exactly when and where you said you’d be. Avoid changing the original plan if you can help it. People relax when they know what to expect.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You will not blend well with someone who is emotionally demanding. You need support to face personal challenges, and overly mercurial or dramatic people won’t focus on you the way you need someone to right now.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Just when you need to solve a problem and don’t have the resources to do so, lucrative opportunities will show up. This is not chance timing; you are drawing good luck to you with your smile.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You enjoy anticipation, and you have so much to look forward to. Today it’s all about that one thing that makes you smile. It’s nothing profound -more likely something wonderfully dumb.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Think of today’s main event as an exercise. Whether things work out the way you want them to or not is very far from the point of the exercise.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You look forward to the events of the near future as long as you feel prepared for them. So take the time to plan and do the things that will help you go confidently forward.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). True to the empathetic talents of your Piscean nature, your emotions will be level and consistent with the emotions of those around you. You’re not afraid to lead; you just won’t have the desire now.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Jan. 20). You don’t expect much from this year, and this will be so good for you. Expectations have been known to lead directly to suffering. February’s surprises will delight you. March brings an opportunity to roll up your sleeves and work hard. You’ll do best in a small group. You’ll meet someone you’re destined to know and love in April. Leo and Cancer people adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 20, 1, 11, 8 and 7.

ARIES SECRET SUPERPOWER BREAKDOWN:

The Obvious: Aries is brave, vivacious, the embodiment of verve, with a warrior’s heart and high energy.

The Uncanny: The way this sign manages adrenaline in the body is mysterious and mighty impressive. Aries has been known to go without sleep and be oddly sane and intelligent the next day.

The Weird: Aries easily recognizes people from the back by the shape of their heads and seldom gets it wrong.

The Extremely Useful: Even though this sign has a strong strain of individuality, group mentality is a no-brainer for Aries. Aries can switch from “me-think” to “groupthink” on a dime. This is a particularly great strength to lean on at work or in team sports.

The Quietly Helpful: Aries people don’t worry as much as some other signs. They have to be taught to be fearful of unlikely outcomes. If they are not taught this, they are sources of great comfort to their peers who struggle with anxiety and doubt. When an Aries extends a hug or a reassuring pat on the back, the energy that’s exchanged can make a remarkable difference to someone who is feeling afraid.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Aquarius actor Rainn Wilson played megalomaniac Dwight Schrute of “The Office,” though in real life he follows closely the humanitarian ideals of his sign, as exemplified in the website he founded: soulpancake.com. The site is a mind-expanding, feelgood, artistic place in cyberspace. Wilson was born when the sun, Venus and Mars were in Aquarius.
