Capitals ready for PJHL’s South final after series win

The Extreme Hockey Regina Capitals have advanced to the Prairie Junior Hockey League’s South Division final.

The Capitals extended their playoff run by defeating the host Assiniboia Southern Rebels 4-2 on Monday. The Capitals won a best-of-seven South Division semifinal 4-2.

Cody Braddock, Tye Exner, Emery Anderson and Jesse Manastyrsk­i scored for the Capitals, who got 21 saves from Carson Bogdan.

Ty Eklund had both goals for Assiniboia. The Southern Rebels’ Braedyn Lysak stopped 30 shots.

The Capitals await the winner of the other South Division semifinal, between the Traveland RV Storm and Fort Knox.

The Storm carries a 3-1 series lead into tonight’s game, which is set for 8 o’clock at the Pilot Butte Recreation Centre.

■■■ The Regina Intercolle­giate Basketball League’s junior small schools city finals are to be held tonight at Campbell Collegiate.

At 6 p.m., the Miller Marauders are to face the Luther Lions in the junior girls final. At 8 p.m., the Martin Monarchs and Johnson Wildcats are to meet in the junior boys championsh­ip game.

In Monday’s junior boys semifinals, Martin defeated the Harvest City Reapers 60-38 and Johnson beat the Regina Christian Grizzlies 75-47.

Also on Monday, the seventh-seeded Riffel Royals defeated the secondrank­ed Campbell Tartans 61-59 in a senior boys large schools quarter-final. Kieran Hebert led Riffel with 17 points.

The Royals advance to one of Thursday’s semifinals, in which they will visit the Balfour Redmen. In the other semifinal, the LeBoldus Golden Suns will play host to Miller. Both games are set for 8 p.m.

In Thursday’s senior girls large schools semifinals, Campbell will play host to LeBoldus and the Winston Knoll Wolverines will entertain the Sheldon-Williams Spartans. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m.

■■■ Philip Pitura of the Regina Rapiers won two events at the Saskatchew­an Open fencing competitio­n, which was held on the weekend at the Fieldhouse.

Pitura won the junior mixed sabre and senior mixed sabre events.
