Colour creates ‘on trend’ rooms for kids
(NC) — Designing spaces for children and adolescent tweens can be challenging. It requires balancing practicality with your own style and with their often-changing personal taste. One way to do this, while giving children the chance to express themselves, is by using colour. Sharon Grech, Benjamin Moore colour and design expert, shares her tips on how to create trendy, functional spaces for kids:
Plan where to invest
Save money on small accessories, such as throw pillows which can easily be replaced as their personal style evolves. Multi-functionality is key for investment pieces — look for bedding with reversible patterns, or furniture that can be refinished or has hardware that can be changed as tastes mature. Bedrooms are for more than sleeping. They are a place to do homework, to unwind and to play. Maximizing storage is crucial. Baskets, shelves or hidden storage units within furniture can help minimize the look of clutter. Visual clutter can also be reduced by confining posters and photos to a single gallery wall, or by painting a large rectangle in a contrasting hue to create a smaller collection.
