Vanstone Kudos to Queen City Marathon

Milo has made all 15 of his convert attempts — he is the only CFL kicker with at least 10 one-point attempts who has yet to miss this season — and is 8-for-9 on field goals with Ottawa.

■ If Kevin Glenn starts for Saskatchewan on Saturday against the visiting Redblacks, the quarterbacking matchup will be identical to that of the inaugural Banjo Bowl. On Sept. 12, 2004, Glenn piloted Winnipeg to a 27-24 victory over the Henry Burris-quarterbacked Roughriders. Smilin’ Hank, of course, is now Ottawa’s No. 1 pivot.

■ Kudos to organizers of the 15th annual Queen City Marathon, which was held Sunday. Thanks as well to the legion of volunteers and the multitude of all-star people who lined the streets and applauded runners of all ages, speeds and descriptions.

■ I expect to finish my leg of the marathon relay on Wednesday.

■ Upon discovering that I am a Yankees fan, people delight in opining that the pinstripers always try to buy a winning team. But where were the vehement objections to free spending when the Blue Jays won the 1993 World Series with the highest payroll in baseball?

■ Fans of NCAA football are terribly served by Canada’s sports television networks. Theoretically, there is more sports TV than ever, but American college football is woefully under-covered north of the border.

■ We want ESPN!

■ Honestly, does the sporting world really need a televised “Instant Analysis” following Connor McDavid’s game with the Edmonton Oilers at the Young Stars Classic?

■ A recent Leader-Post story referred to Johnson Wildcats defensive line coach Emma Hicks as a rare female coach in the Regina Intercollegiate Football League. It should be noted, however, that Hicks is not the RIFL’s first female coach. That distinction belongs to Teresa Trakalo, who coached the Thom Trojans’ defensive backs in the mid-1990s.

■ Nice people who deserve a plug include: Jim Aussant, Tim Winters, Herb Ward, Joey Walters, Lester Brown, George Anderson, O’Neal Tyler, James Martin, Kelly Gower, Rob Koroluk, Jesse Robson, Mal Isaac, Jon Ryan, Barb Ryan, Ryan Elberg, Nathan Streifel, Pat Fleming, Chad Ehman, Brenda Thomson, Marty Klyne, Jeff Armstead and everyone involved with the Queen City Marathon.

?? JEFF BASSETT/The Canadian Press ?? The instant analysis of Edmonton Oilers phenom Connor McDavid at the Young Stars Classic is a little much, according to columnist Rob Vanstone.
