Overtime win propels LeBoldus into city final

The LeBoldus Golden Suns are to meet the Campbell Tartans in Friday’s Regina High Schools Athletic Associatio­n 3A girls soccer final.

In a semifinal Monday, LeBoldus defeated the O’Neill Titans 2-1 in overtime. Sheena Kapila and Ella Farthing scored for LeBoldus. Megan Ripplinger replied for O’Neill.

In the other semifinal, Campbell got two goals from Zoey Bourgeois and singles from Juliane Markewich, Olivia Gables, Nikhala Thakkar and Emily Hutchison in a 6-0 victory over the Miller Marauders.

The 3A girls city final is set for Friday, 5 p.m., at the Soccer Centre. The 3A boys final is to follow at 7 p.m.

Three members of the Regina Thunder combined to earn five honours Tuesday as the PFC announced its rookie all-star team.

Leading the way was Kris Calcutt, who was named the conference’s top firstyear receiver, punter and kicker.

In regular-season action, Calcutt caught six passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns, punted 29 times for a 28.2-yard net average and hit 10 of 14 field-goal attempts.

The Thunder’s Sawyer Buettner was named the league’s top rookie quarterbac­k after completing 33 of 56 pass attempts for 485 yards with two touchdowns.

Regina linebacker Tanner Smith also was honoured. Smith had six tackles, three assists and a special-teams tackle.

Mark Gettle had a holein-one Sunday at the Deer Valley Golf Club.

He aced the 110-yard 16th hole while using a pitching wedge. The feat was witnessed by Murray Gettle, Mike Wowchuk and Tracy Haniak.
