Vehicle, two dogs stolen; one pet still missing
SASKATOON — Every dog lover fears losing their furry friend. For two people, that fear became a reality on Monday.
Kyle Perry received a call from his wife Monday afternoon. She told him their vehicle had been stolen from a McDonald’s parking lot on 22nd St. Stolen along with the vehicle were Basil and Gabriella, the couple’s two pets.
Basil is a “golden doodle,” a golden retriever and poodle cross. Gabriella is a blue heeler mix puppy, which the couple has been fostering through Saskatoon Dog Rescue.
Perry was just getting to work when he received the call. He reported the incident to the police and began scouring the Internet for the lost dogs. He also posted on buy and sell pages, asking people to be on the lookout.
“We got a very good response,” Perry said. “Some comments were not so great, but for every comment where people were saying something bad, we had people sticking up.”
Basil and the vehicle have since been recovered, but Gabriella is still missing. The car was recovered at approximately 9 p.m. Monday night. Basil was recovered the same night at 11:45 p.m. on Ave V.
Perry has been searching the city and has had some leads, but nothing solid yet. Cameras at Vern’s Pizza and the Husky on 11th Street have captured a man and woman with the two dogs. Perry says concerned citizens have sighted dogs which match the description of the puppy, including a neighbourhood on Ave R, but the search has been unsuccessful so far.
“The other gentleman who has taken our dog, from last time we heard, has sold her,” Perry said. “They were out door to door selling her.”
“The family really misses her and we’d like to have her back.”
A spokesperson for the Saskatoon Police Service did not have any further information except to confirm that the vehicle in question had been recovered and there were no dogs present at the time.
