Better Call Saul
This low-key prequel to Breaking Bad returns for a second season, having bagged seven Emmy nods for its first go-round, including best actor (Bob Odenkirk), best supporting actor (Jonathan Banks) and best drama series. As before, the primary focus is a character study of decent-guy attorney Jimmy McGill (Odenkirk) and how circumstances transformed him into the anything-fora-buck shyster who works under the name Saul Goodman. MOVIE: ANNE OF GREEN GABLES
Lucy Maud Montgomery’s 1908 family classic about life on Prince Edward Island gets a new TV movie adaptation that is lovely and faithful (no surprise there, given that Montgomery’s granddaughter Kate MacDonald Butler is among the executive producers). Ella Ballentine, 13, plays the red-haired title character; Martin Sheen, Sara Botsford, Julia Lalonde and Linda Kash also star. (YTV)
THE 58TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS
However things turn out, Kendrick Lamar is likely to have a very good time at the recording industry’s top event: He leads the nominees with 11 bids. The ceremony is televised from Los Angeles’ Staples Center, with LL Cool J returning as host. Taylor Swift and The Weeknd have seven nominations each and, along with Lamar, Alabama Shakes and Chris Stapleton, they’re up for the album-of-the-year honour. (CBS, City)
