The new Mosaic Stadium gender neutral washrooms are a welcome change, according to most of the field’s tenants.

The inclusion of gender neutral washrooms will put the stadium in line with the City of Regina’s efforts to be more inclusive.

The Regina Thunder Football Club is pleased with the city’s decision to include gender neutral washrooms at the new stadium.

“As an organization that relies heavily on the support from the community, it only make sense that we support any initiatives which allow any and all members of the community to be comfortable attending our games and other events at Mosaic Stadium,” Brin Werrett, president of Regina Thunder Football Club, said in an email.

The University of Regina Rams Football Club sees the inclusion of gender neutral washrooms as nothing new to its organization.

“The Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport at the U of R — where the club’s facilities are located — has included a gender-neutral bathroom for a number of years now,” Braden Konschuh, sports information director at the University of Regina, said over email.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders, aware of the organization’s position as the new stadium’s most well-known tenant, deferred to the city on the issue.

“We aren’t in a position to comment as this is a city facility and they can speak to the design decisions of the new stadium,” said a Roughriders spokesperson over email.

Regina’s decision to include gender neutral washrooms does vary from other sporting venues in the country. Winnipeg’s Investors Group Field, which was built in 2013, does not include gender neutral washrooms, but does have family washrooms that any person can use.
