Organizers want to sweep up volunteers for broomball meet
Volunteers are required for the world broomball championships, which are to be held Nov. 1-5 at the Co-operators Centre.
Anyone who is interested in volunteering is invited to visit the event’s website http://www.broomball2016.ca/volunteer/.
The championships will include competition in the men’s, women’s, mixed and masters divisions.
Regina’s Greg Hetterley finished third in the junior men’s (19-andunder) division at the Canadian mountain running championships in Vancouver on the weekend.
He finished the six-kilometre course, most of which was uphill, in 58 minutes and qualified for the world mountain running championships, to be held in Bulgaria in September.
The Regina Red Sox began a sixgame Alberta road swing Tuesday by defeating the Edmonton Prospects 7-5 in 11 innings.
Gabriel Montero doubled home Aden Campbell with the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th, with the score tied 5-5. Montero reached base four times and scored two runs during the Western Major Baseball League game. Skyler Henson was the winning pitcher. Sam Brunner got the save for Regina, which improved its record to 12-8.
The Red Sox were to meet the host Fort McMurray Giants on Wednesday night. Regina is also scheduled to play in Fort McMurray on Thursday.
Two members of the Regina YMCA Judo Club will take part in international competitions on the weekend.
Aidan Skaf will be in Cordoba, Argentina competing in the Pan American junior championships. A first-degree black belt, Skaf is to compete in the men’s under-21 minus-66-kilogram division.
Robb Karaim, meanwhile, will be refereeing at a continental championship event in San Salvador.
