SUN WILL RISE FOR BAND
Snake River plans followup album
The recording process is usually an ongoing process and that’s something Snake River understands.
The Regina band — self-described as playing psych-twang — is capping off a mini-fall tour with a show Saturday night at the German Club. Snake River has been touring in support of Sun Will Rise, their latest LP, which was released earlier this month. The album follows McKruski (2014) and Songs From The Adjacent Room (2015) and fans won’t have to wait long to see where and if the story continues.
“We have a few new songs that we’ve already started recording,” explains Sleightholm, singer/ multi-instrumentalist. “We’re going to follow up this record pretty quick with another one, probably next spring. I think we’ll do some light touring out closer to home throughout the winter. We’ll probably just mostly focus on recording.”
The band, comprised of Sleightholm, John De Gennaro (guitar), Dustin Gamracy (drums) and Jeff M (bass), originally started out with only Sleightholm, but expanded to the current lineup.
“I made the first record I think in 2012, and I didn’t get too many copies so I just gave them out to people and did a few shows,” he said. “I gave them to my friends. Two of my closer friends, they heard the record — they liked it — and they suggested that we just get together and learn the songs to play them live with a full arrangement. So that’s kinda how it started — through the encouragement of friends, really.
“I was in another band at the time, and I was pretty busy with that so I wasn’t really wanting Snake River to be a thing. Since the other band has folded, Snake River has become the main focus, which has been good.”
Every band has a bucket list and Sleightholm shared the band will most likely hit one of his on the next record.
“I wanted to have a bunch of my friends play on it, on a record of mine, so have more of a varied instrumentation,” said Sleightholm. “I think this next record will have a bunch of horns, and maybe some strings — just different things. I think we’ll have a lot of our friends play on this record and that’ll be fun.”
Tickets for the show are $10 at the door.
