Samsung pulls plug on benefit Gaga show in wake of recall

- DOUG CAMILLI Postmedia News tellcamilli@gmail.com

Lady Gaga was supposed to do a big benefit show in Manhattan the other day but it was cancelled, the N.Y. Post reports.

Why? Because Samsung, the sponsor, has been having some problems. You’ve probably heard the company recalled 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 photos, because they’re at risk of exploding — not really a phone app people want.

Tickets for this Samsung Hope for Children Gala were a mere $4,500 each. Last year 700 people attended to hear Demi Lovato and Nick Cannon.

I don’t understand why Samsung cancelled. It’s not to economize: the company promised that “our charitable partners … will receive an even greater donation than planned” and Samsung still had to honour Gaga’s payment, venue rent catering and security cancellation fees, etc. Adele claims her voice has deteriorated since she stopped smoking five years ago, after that vocal-cord hemorrhage.

On CTV’s etalk the other day, Adele said “people with the best voices always smoke. I’ve given up smoking and I’m convinced that’s made my voice weaker.”

On the other hand, she added, “My fingers ain’t orange anymore!” She once smoked 25 a day. Thank goodness Angelina Jolie and the kids will be spared the housing problem that can follow divorce among Dull Normals. The Daily Mail says she and the kids are now renting a $12-million Malibu beachfront place. Brad’s still at the family house in Los Feliz, an hour away. We don’t know how much rent Angie’s paying; the place cost one previous tenant $95,000 a month, the paper says.

She took the place three weeks before pulling the divorce trigger.

Maddox is 15 now. Pax is 12; Zahara’s 11; Shiloh’s 10; twins Vivienne and Knox are eight. I admit it: I’d never heard of Idina Menzel before the 2014 Oscars, when John Travolta so brutally massacred her name.

Anyway, since Travolta’s “Adele Dazeem” flub she’s become almost a household name, so I guess it’s news that she’s getting married to actor Aaron Lohr. They were together in the 2005 movie version of the musical Rent.

She’s 45. He’s 40. Daniel Radcliffe, appearing on a BBC radio talk show, was told that the next day Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Millie Bobby Brown — the Stranger Things kids — would be on.

Radcliffe went into full fanmeltdown mode, HuffPo reports:

“Oh my god. OK, can you, like, just tell them that I think they’re amazing and also just say, like, that as a person who started out acting really young, how are they so good?” Radcliffe asked the radio host. “I wasn’t that good when I was a kid. Have the decency to be less good at acting, please, when you’re so young.”
