The Walking Dead

-

If you thought the long-awaited return of this series would somehow include a fake-out, that one of the familiar characters hadn’t received a fatal kiss from a baseball bat called Lucille, think again. There reportedly is, indeed, a death in the opening of tonight’s Season 7 premiere, The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be. It’s going to hurt for a lot of fans, as Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the formidable new arch villain, gives the survivors a violent look at the fate of anyone who does not bend to his will. The premiere is followed by a special 90-minute edition of Talking Dead. (AMC)

THE SECRET PATH

Adapted from a set of 10 poems by Gord Downie, this moving but downbeat animated special chronicles a tragic real-life incident from 1966, when a 12-yearold boy, Chanie Wenjack, died trying to escape from the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School near Kenora, Ont. The boy set out on foot hoping to reunite with the family from whom he was taken, not realizing they were more than 600 kilometres away. (CBC)

INDIAN SUMMERS ON MASTERPIECE

In the new episode A Gift for the King, the British prepare for their carefree picnic to mark the king’s silver jubilee, unaware that Naresh is putting into action his deadly plan: to dispatch innocent orphan Chota Matthew (Kabir Raj Singh Singh Randhawa) to the event bearing a bomb disguised to look like a royal present.
