Pats get behind mental health

The Regina Pats and the Canadian Mental Health Associatio­n are joining forces to raise awareness of the importance of mental health.

On Tuesday, when the WHL’s Pats play host to the Lethbridge Hurricanes (7 p.m. at the Brandt Centre), mental health issues will be emphasized with: A CMHA operated informatio­nal kiosk; videos showing Pats players discussing mental health; mental health-related public address announceme­nts; a “Chuck a Puck” promotion, with proceeds going to the CMHA’s Regina branch; and, a social media photo booth, which will give fans an opportunit­y to send messages in support of mental health.

The Pats and the CMHA Regina branch are working together as part of Talk Today, which provides players with mental health support and awareness.

Kennedy Bobyck scored a hat trick and Chantal Burke stopped all 30 shots she faced to lead the Regina Rebels to a 6-0 victory over the host Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats in Saskatchew­an Female Midget AAA Hockey League first-round playoff action Saturday at the Fairview Arena.

Lauren Focht, with two goals, and Ally Kosteniuk with a single, also scored for the Rebels as they evened the best-of-five series at 1-1.

Game 3 was scheduled for Sunday night at the Co-operators Centre. The result was unavailabl­e at press time.

The Regina Pat Canadians are preparing for Tuesday’s Saskatchew­an Midget AAA Hockey League playoff game against the Saskatoon Blazers (7:45 p.m. at the Co-operators Centre).

Saskatoon posted a 4-1 victory in the opener of a best-of-five quarter-final on Friday, when Jacob Wassermann made 33 saves at the Co-operators Centre.

Braden Krzak, Noah Bankowski, Jaydon Dureau and Luke Puto scored for the Blazers.

Tyler Lees replied for the Pat Canadians, who got a combined 13 saves from goalies Dean McNabb and Nathan Moore.

Game 2 was to be played Sunday night in Saskatoon. The result was unavailabl­e at press time.

Regina finished the regular season with a league best 36-6-0-2 record.

The Blazers (17-22-0-5) earned the eighth and final playoff spot.

One-goal, two-assist performanc­es by Aaron Aragon and Dayton Heino led the Melville Millionair­es to a 4-3 SJHL victory over the Weyburn Red Wings on Saturday at Crescent Point Place.

Clayton Eisler and Damian Bentz also scored for Melville.

Meanwhile, Weyburn’s Mike Eskra counted assists on goals by Jacob Wozney, Tyran Brown and Carson Rose.
