Red Sox home stand continues

- Ashley Baerg of Dalmeny is the Sask Sport Inc. athlete of the month for May. She excelled at the world disabled water ski championsh­ips in Australia, setting a world record.

The Regina Red Sox are preparing for back-to-back Western Major Baseball League home games against the Edmonton Prospects.

Regina is to oppose Edmonton on Thursday and Friday. The Melville Millionair­es will then pay a visit on Saturday. All three games are set for 7:05 p.m., at Currie Field.

The Red Sox were to begin a four-game home stand Wednesday against the Weyburn Beavers.

Regina carried a 10-4 record into that game after winning 7-3 in Melville on Tuesday. Dalton England was the winning pitcher. Broderick Rodocker homered for the Red Sox, who got three hits and two stolen bases from Justin Erlandson. Gentry Ford homered for Melville.

Peter Hill and Josh Jordan hit backto-back doubles to plate the winning run as the Bulyea Rustlers defeated Chetty’s Pretty Boys 5-3 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Monday.

Both pitchers — Bulyea’s Colin McLeod and the Pretty Boys’ Christian Bear — went the distance. Bear struck out 13 and also homered. Dustin Bear added a home run for the Pretty Boys.

Also on Monday at Rambler Park, Blake Dixon got the win as the Moose Jaw Canadians blanked the Piapot Padres 14-0.

On Tuesday, Brian Poitras, Shayse Cappo and Tony Cappo homered to help the Best Buds defeat the Moose Jaw Giants 6-4, and winning pitcher Chris Bear homered in the NB Petro Hawks’ 4-3 victory over the Standing Buffalo Dakotas.

Stephanie Gomersall was the winning pitcher as the Thunder blanked the Storm 7-0 in Regina Ladies Softball Associatio­n action Monday.

In other games at Douglas Park, it was: Piapot 16, Sioux Ladies 1; Saints 11, Vipers 4; Vipers 12, Edge 5; and, Edge 8, Fusion 7. On Tuesday, Amanda Dacey hit a grandslam homer for Elite Auto Body in its 25-12 victory over the Mystics.

Meanwhile, Shelby Brandt homered to help the Lumsden Cubs defeat the Predators 11-9, Bret Dundas got the win as the Wheat Country Extreme defeated the Earl Grey Heat 7-1, and the Predators defeated Earl Grey 9-5.
