-

Regina snowboarder Mark McMorris has added another accolade to his long list of honours.

On Wednesday, McMorris received an ESPY Award in the category of best male action sports athlete. It was the fourth time he had been nominated for the award.

The 23-year-old McMorris won three X Games medals this past season and also excelled on the World Cup circuit before suffering multiple injuries March 25 during a serious crash in the B.C. backcountry.

McMorris suffered a broken jaw, a broken left arm, a ruptured spleen, a stable pelvic fracture, rib fractures and a collapsed left lung. He had surgery twice. He told The Canadian Press earlier this month that he is feeling “really good.”

The ESPYs — recognizing Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly — were presented Wednesday in Los Angeles. Football legend Peyton Manning was the host.

Jordan Schulz and Aden Campbell both had a double and a home run to power the Regina Red Sox to a 12-2 victory over the Yorkton Cardinals in Western Major Baseball League action Wednesday.

Jake Waters earned the pitching decision over Kyle Stevenson at Currie Field.

Yorkton assumed an early 1-0 lead before Regina scored the next 12 runs en route to improving its record to 21-11 — the same as the Swift Current 57’s, who shared the Eastern Division lead with Regina after Wednesday’s action.

The Red Sox were to play the host Weyburn Beavers on Thursday night before visiting Yorkton on Friday. Regina’s next home game is Sunday at 2:05 p.m., against the Melville Millionaires.

Al Muhle struck out seven in six innings and Brad Flanagan homered to help Silver Screen Sportswear double the Bulyea Rustlers 8-4 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Wednesday. Josh Jordan homered for Bulyea. Also on Wednesday at Rambler Park, the NB Petro Hawks got a home run from Terrell Walker and six strikeouts in five innings from Chris Bear in an 8-1 victory over the Moose Jaw Giants.

Chloe Sies of Melville won the Saskatchewan junior women’s golf championship Wednesday in Swift Current.

She posted a three-round score of 239. Hannah MacNeil of Shaunavon and Alexandra Schmidt of Regina were tied for second, nine strokes off the pace.

Sies, MacNeil, Schmidt and alternate Sarah Grieve will represent Saskatchewan at the Canadian junior women’s championship, Aug. 1-4 in Cumberland, Ont.

Grieve, who is from Saskatoon, won the 15-and-under title at junior provincials.
