Vaughn Taylor wins silver in Bahamas

Vaughn Taylor of Regina won a silver medal in the boys 400 metres Friday at the Commonweal­th Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas.

The 17-year-old Taylor, from the Excel Athletika Track and Field Club, posted a time of 47.92 seconds. Kennedy Luchembe of Zambia won the race in 47.63.

The 70-nation event is for athletes aged 14 to 18.

The Regina Red Sox are to oppose the host Swift Current 57’s on Monday in a matchup of the Western Major Baseball League’s Eastern Division leaders.

That is the first of three consecutiv­e road games for the Red Sox, who are to visit the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Wednesday and the Weyburn Beavers on Thursday.

Swift Current will then play a doublehead­er Friday at Currie Field, beginning at 6 p.m. The twin bill, the result of a postponeme­nt, will consist of two seven-inning games.

On Saturday, the Okotoks Dawgs defeated the host Red Sox 6-3. Phil Langlois had two hits and a walk for the Red Sox, who played host to Okotoks on Sunday.

On Friday, the Red Sox defeated the host 57’s 12-8 in 12 innings in a showdown of teams that entered the game tied for the division lead with 26-12 records.

Aden Campbell homered, doubled, scored three runs, drew two walks and drove in two runs for Regina, which got four hits from Antonio Torres.

Swift Current got home runs from Blake Adams (who had four hits), Bodie Cooper and Brett Esau.

Saskatchew­an won Friday’s bronzemeda­l game at the Under-16 East Challenge football tournament, defeating New Brunswick 19-10 in Wolfville, N.S.

Saskatchew­an scored its touchdowns on a five-yard blocked-punt return by Carter Shurvell and a 70-yard fumble return by Seth Hundeby. Nova Scotia defeated Ontario 3521 in the gold-medal game.

The Regina Rogues edged the Campion Grads 18-17 in Regina Rugby Union senior men’s action Friday.

In Friday’s other match, the Regina Condors defeated the Regina Highlander­s 33-19.
