There are no plans to add more water fountains at Mosaic Stadium despite scorching criticism from fans about the lack of water at the Saskatchewan Roughriders game on Saturday.

Spectators at the game were dealing with temperatures that reached 35 C at kickoff and 21 fans were treated for heat-related issues. Following the game, many fans complained on social media about the lack of fountains and cold water at the stadium.

Game-day experiences will be continue to be reviewed, according to a joint statement released Tuesday afternoon by Evraz Place, the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club and the City of Regina.

The statement read: “In this, our inaugural season, we continue to review game-day experiences in new Mosaic Stadium. As operators of Mosaic Stadium, Evraz Place, along with the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club, strive to provide a safe, comfortable and enjoyable experience for all patrons.

“We are aware that there was inconsistency at one gate around what fans were allowed to bring in with them and this is being addressed with on-site security personnel.”

Mosaic Stadium, which holds 33,000 people, has four water fountains around the facility for fan use. Water and other beverages are also readily available for purchase from vendors across the stadium.

Patrons attending events at Mosaic Stadium are permitted to bring sealed water bottles no larger than one litre, as well as empty, refillable containers with a onelitre maximum capacity.

There is no limit on the number of sealed water bottles or refillable containers allowed.
