STC buses, equipment for sale to the public

- MATTHEW OLSON

The Saskatchewan Transportation Company’s equipment and vehicles are now officially for sale.

The Crown Investments Corporation of Saskatchewan, the only stakeholder in the STC, has begun the lengthy task of selling the bus company’s assets to other companies.

Financial firm KPMG has been contracted to handle the process.

“There’s a range of assets for sale,” KPMG spokesman Aaron Collier said. “We’re managing the sale of all these assets, starting from today.”

A request for proposals (RFP) regarding STC’s equipment was posted Tuesday morning. Outside organizations can submit proposals to KPMG for purchasing the assets until the beginning of October, when the company will contact the successful bidders.

The equipment for sale in the wake of the company’s closure in May includes buses and coaches, trucks and other support vehicles, trailers, furniture and IT equipment, according to Collier and the official RFP.

KPMG’s job over the next two months is to contact those who may want to submit a proposal. Collier noted some groups have already reached out regarding the available equipment, although he said he couldn’t name any of them specifically.

“It takes quite a while to reach out to all parties that might be interested,” Collier said. “Sometimes it does take a period of time to make sure you contact everyone who may be interested.”

Collier stressed that successful bids will not necessarily be chosen based on the amount of money offered for the assets, but on specific criteria outlined in the RFP, including best value offered and the number of assets included in the proposal.

Because STC’s previous facilities are still in use or are in the process of being prepared for sale, the company’s former buildings are not part of the current assets for sale.
