Holoien homers put Moose Jaw in fastball lead over Bulyea

Dean Holoien hit a pair of two-run homers to power the Moose Jaw Canadians to an 11-4 victory over the Bulyea Rustlers in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League playoff action Thursday.

Moose Jaw leads a best-of-three semi-final 1-0.

Dane Roy and Derek Owens also homered for Moose Jaw. Troy Gordon homered for Bulyea. Xavier Tremblay earned the pitching decision over Michael Jordan. The Swift Current 57’s evened the Western Major Baseball League’s Eastern Division final series at 2-2 on Thursday by defeating the host Weyburn Beavers 11-1.

The fifth and deciding game was to be played Friday night at Mitchell Field in Swift Current — home of the defending league champions.

Swift Current starter Mitch Guiberson registered the win Thursday after allowing one run and four hits in eight innings.

The 57’s got home runs from Brett Esau and Blake Adams. Matt Bondarchuk added three hits, three RBI and two runs scored at Tom Laing Park as the road team won for the fourth time in as many games during the series.

The winner of Friday’s game was to advance to the league final against the Edmonton Prospects, who eliminated the Medicine Hat Mavericks in four games. Kim Boreen and Debbie Dirven, both of Churchbrid­ge, won the Saskatchew­an Women’s Rosebowl golf championsh­ip Thursday in Elbow.

They finished four strokes ahead of the defending champions — the Weyburn duo of Linda Sokul and Cheryl Lawrence.
