FALL IN LOVE WITH PLAID

By now, we’ve probably all seen the ubiquitous Balenciaga checked blazer — if not in person, then definitely on Instagram. It’s the hallmark style, it seems, of fall/winter 2017, and it’s made us fall in love with plaid all over again. Beyond the blazer,

1. Dress up

A sheath dress is the ultimate work-appropriate silhouette — and, conveniently, the one by Contemporaine that manages to go from day to dinner, boardroom to bar, the easiest. Wear this style with a sharp black blazer and pumps for work; switch in ankle boots and a leather biker for extra-curriculars. Simons, simons.ca | $99

2. Blues brothers

Plaids can often be a subdued affair, and this blouse proves the rule wrong. It also comes with “built-in” off-the-shoulder styling, so you can just throw on and go. H&M, hm.com | $29.99

3. Hemmed in

Not sure what the difference is between Glen plaid or Prince of Wales checks? Well, in most cases, they’re different names for the same pattern (and obviously, the Prince of Wales was a fan) — and in the case of this skirt, with its unique hem detail and flattering length, it’s a moot point. Oak + Fort, oakandfort.ca | $58

4. Purr-fect plaid

Bringing together the best elements of the shoe world right now — kitten heels! Loafers! Mules! Plaid! — these slide-on tweed shoes are the simplest way to both dip a toe into the trend (get it?) and bring a fashion-forward update to your look. J.Crew, jcrew.com | $162

5. Berry good

Every wardrobe needs a smart jacket that can double as a blazer for last-minute meetings. Enter this raspberry-hued style, which looks just as sharp with skinny jeans as it does with a black pencil skirt. Joe Fresh, joefresh.com | $59
