Cougars take top spot in women’s basketball
The University of Regina Cougars have moved into top spot in the weekly U Sports women’s basketball rankings.
The Cougars ascended one position after sweeping the host University of Manitoba Bisons on the opening weekend of Canada West regular-season play.
On Friday and Saturday, the Cougars will oppose the University of Fraser Valley Cascades in men’s and women’s basketball at the Centre for Kinesiology Health and Sport. Games are set for 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men) both nights.
The Cougars’ wrestling teams are ranked fourth (women) and ninth (men).
In U Sports football, the University of Regina Rams finished the season in ninth spot.
Campbell Tartans volleyball teams
won both their Regina High Schools Athletic Association playoff matches Monday.
In a senior girls Tier 1 quarterfinal, Campbell defeated the Sheldon-Williams Spartans 2513, 25-17.
Campbell defeated the Martin Monarchs 25-22, 25-23 in a senior boys quarter-final.
The other senior girls Tier 1 quarter-final results were: Luther Lions defeated O’Neill Titans 2516, 25-18; Riffel Royals defeated Miller Marauders 25-21, 25-20; and Winston Knoll Wolverines defeated LeBoldus Golden Suns 27-25, 25-17.
In the other senior boys quarterfinals; Miller defeated the Thom Trojans 25-17, 25-13 and Riffel outlasted O’Neill 25-16, 22-25, 15-13.
