The salaries paid to police officers vary by jurisdiction. What follows is a list of the annual salaries paid to rookie constables in select police forces. Save for the Winnipeg figure, which was relayed by a member of the Winnipeg Police Association, the information is available online. Regina: $59,926 Saskatoon: $58,356 (after six months’ probation) Winnipeg: $54,600
Calgary: $65,891 RCMP: $69,049 (after six months’ service and upon being recommended for promotion by staffing and personnel) While RCMP members must attain the rank of sergeant before reaching a six-figure salary, it is possible for constables in the municipal forces listed above to reach salaries exceeding $100,000. What follows is a list of when a constable in each those forces becomes eligible to crack the sixfigure mark:
Regina: 8th year and over
Saskatoon: 10th year
Winnipeg: after nine years
Calgary: 5th year
In those municipal forces, ranks listed above constable all earn over $100,000. Saskatchewan and its two neighbouring provinces spend different amounts on policing per capita.
