The salaries paid to police officers vary by jurisdicti­on. What follows is a list of the annual salaries paid to rookie constables in select police forces. Save for the Winnipeg figure, which was relayed by a member of the Winnipeg Police Associatio­n, the informatio­n is available online. Regina: $59,926 Saskatoon: $58,356 (after six months’ probation) Winnipeg: $54,600

Calgary: $65,891 RCMP: $69,049 (after six months’ service and upon being recommende­d for promotion by staffing and personnel) While RCMP members must attain the rank of sergeant before reaching a six-figure salary, it is possible for constables in the municipal forces listed above to reach salaries exceeding $100,000. What follows is a list of when a constable in each those forces becomes eligible to crack the sixfigure mark:

Regina: 8th year and over

Saskatoon: 10th year

Winnipeg: after nine years

Calgary: 5th year

In those municipal forces, ranks listed above constable all earn over $100,000. Saskatchew­an and its two neighbouri­ng provinces spend different amounts on policing per capita. What follows is a list of provincewi­de spending on policing per capita in 2015, as released last year by Statistics Canada: Saskatchew­an: $377

Alberta: $340

Manitoba: $383

The same report provides data on the number of police officers per capita, in each province. What follows is a list of the number of police officers in each province in 2016 per 100,000 population.

Saskatchew­an: 200 Alberta: 172

Manitoba: 194

The total number of police officers in each province and the balance between municipal and RCMP officers also vary, province to province, according to the report. What follows is a breakdown of those numbers for each province in 2016.
