ACEC-SK encourages clients to find their trusted advisor

- by Paul Walsh,

Engineering and Geoscience Week is an opportunity for ACEC-SK to applaud the accomplishments of our industry with our colleagues and communities. Saskatchewan’s engineers and geoscientists are recognized as world leaders, with some of the most talented and respected professionals practicing within and beyond our borders. As we celebrate our successes, we encourage our partners to lay the framework for future success by allowing engineers to offer them the best value.

Investing in qualified engineers has proven to be a wise investment for communities throughout the province. The first step is to ensure that the right person is hired for the right job. The right engineer for the right project with the right direction will ultimately result in best value. It seems obvious, but when faced with the real challenges of limited budgets, tight schedules, duty and accountability, this idea is easily overshadowed. Worse still, in many cases the lowest price is mistaken for best value.

“If you think it’s expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.” Red Adair (19152004)

Engineers encourage clients to consider consultants as “trust advisors” who share their priorities and interest in achieving the best outcomes for their project. Engineering advice and design decisions impact project scope, construction costs, asset lifecycle and numerous aspects of infrastructure projects. The value of these items far outpace the cost of the engineering service itself.

ACEC-SK encourages all clients to focus on finding their ‘trusted advisor’ to support them in delivering their vision. When they are successful, everyone wins.
