Lots to do at the zoo
Lions and tigers and warthogs and pandas — and birds and animals of all sorts to delight the family inhabit the Roosevelt Park Zoo. And, now there’s a special night for adults, too, at the Zoo,
In addition to all the animals and activities at the zoo and Roosevelt Park, there will be evening fun for adults as well on June 28 from 6 to 10 p.m. as the zoo hosts Bacon and Brew.
“It’s a fun night at the zoo for adults,” says Jennifer Kleen, Minot Zoo Crew executive director. “We bring in local restaurants presenting their own recipes involving bacon and they come up with something completely different and it sometimes even ends up on their menu,” she says. The evening costs $50 and includes local brewed craft beer, as well as wine, to wash down the bacon. “It’s a neat way to enjoy the zoo,” Kleen says.
Tickets for Bacon and Brew are online at www.rpzoo.com/bacon-andbrew-and-wine-too/.
For the younger set, and for those young at heart, there are also numerous activities at the zoo. Visit the zoo on World Conservation Day, July 15, and celebrate World Giraffe Day on June 23.
World Giraffe Day is an initiative of the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) held worldwide. Not only is it a worldwide celebration of these animals, but an annual event to raise awareness and shed light on the challenges they face in the wild.
Participants in World Giraffe Day help support giraffe conservation efforts in the wild that will ultimately help secure the future of these animals in Africa.
With less than 90,000 giraffe remaining in the wild, it is time to act now. It is imperative that the future for all giraffe in Africa be secured.
Giraffe populations across the African continent face different challenges that require unique approaches to securing their future.
Zoos like the Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot, schools, NGOs, governments, universities, other institutions and conservation organisations around the world will be hosting events as part of World Giraffe Day, helping to put people at the centre of giraffe conservation.
World Giraffe Day events at the Roosevelt Park Zoo will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sat., Jun. 23.
