Pats sign import draft picks

The Regina Pats have signed both their 2018 CHL import-draft picks — forward Sergei Alkhimov and defenceman Nikita Sedov — to standard WHL player agreements.

Alkhimov was taken in the first round (47th overall) on June 28. Sedov was Regina’s second-round pick (107th). Both players are from Russia.

“We are very happy to have both players commit to our organizati­on,” Pats general manager John Paddock said in a media release. “Sergei and Nikita are coming in at 17 and will be a big part of our team for the next few years.”

Canadian and American rugby teams, made up of former internatio­nal players from those countries, are to play their annual exhibition match Saturday, 2 p.m., at Regina Rugby Park.

The Canadian Classics’ roster will include alumni from the Prairie Fire, which was a Regina-based side in the Rugby Canada Super League.

Deer Valley’s Carey Mclean carried

a one-stroke lead into Wednesday ’s final round of the Saskatchew­an junior women’s golf championsh­ip in Saskatoon.

Mclean, 16, was at 125 — 21 over par — after Round 2 on Tuesday. Yorkton’s Ella Kozak, 12, and Shell Lake’s Brooklin Fry, 13, were one stroke off the pace.

At the junior men’s provincial­s, also in Saskatoon, Josh Nagy of the host city led the field after Round 2 with an even-par 144.

Bradley Moser of Saskatoon was next in line at 147, followed by Edmonton’s Braden O’grady — who had a hole-in-one Tuesday — and Saskatoon’s Connor Scissons at 148. Colby Friedrich of Battleford was at 149, one stroke ahead of Regina’s Adam Husli.

Winning pitcher Taylor Ziegler homered for the Raiders in their 9-4 Regina Ladies Softball Associatio­n victory over Piapot on Tuesday.

Also on Tuesday at Douglas Park, Aimee Unchulenko got the win as the Rampage shut out the Saints 7-0, and the Lumsden Under-19s defeated the Vipers 18-5.

The Regina Red Sox are to begin a three-game stretch of road games Thursday against the Swift Current 57s.

The Western Major Baseball League game is set for 7:05 p.m., at Mitchell Field.

Regina will then oppose the Melville Millionair­es on Saturday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.) at Pirie Field.
