Police seize guns, ammo, cash and drugs
Six people are facing charges after a police investigation netted guns and a variety of drugs, including fentanyl.
According to information from the Regina Police Service, a “covert drug trafficking project” was led by the Regina Drug Unit this month “as a result of the presence of fentanyl, firearms and controlled substance(s) continuing to enter the community.”
“Fentanyl is identified as a dangerous opioid that is severely impacting the safety of the public, first responders and those engaged in drug use,” police stated in a news release.
The investigation led to the identification of various people allegedly involved in the trafficking of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, police reported. Police added the investigation also identified the possession and trafficking of firearms.
The project — enforced Friday and Saturday — also involved work by the Regina Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, the city police Street Gang Unit and the Stolen Auto Unit, as well as patrol, the canine unit and the SWAT team. A total of six locations were searched, resulting in the seizure of fentanyl, cocaine, meth, marijuana, Xanax, cash, firearms, ammunition and Taser devices, police said.
One man from Vancouver and five people from Regina — five men and one woman, ranging in age from 25 to 36 — are facing a combined total of 70 charges in connection with the investigation. All but one appeared at Regina provincial court on Monday. The other appeared in court last week.
The Crown has opposed the release of all six and they are each due back in court later this week.
Based on the charges, at least one of the guns seized was loaded.
