Leboldus wins RIFL shootout
The Leboldus Golden Suns edged the Miller Marauders 35-34 in a Regina Intercollegiate Football League shootout on Thursday at Mosaic Stadium.
Ryker Frank of Leboldus rushed 23 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns.
Leboldus quarterback Christian Fischer completed 10 of 17 passes for 181 yards, including two TD tosses to Dom Dheilly. Jerry Wiebe returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown for the Golden Suns.
In addition to returning a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, Miller’s Kieran Poissant had four catches for 91 yards.
Also on Thursday, the Riffel Royals got three TD catches from Ethan Ball in a 42-0 victory over the Winston Knoll Wolverines.
Ball caught seven passes for 250 yards. Quarterback Avery Wagner threw for 293 yards.
The Regina Pats have signed defenceman Makai Mitchell, 16, to a standard WHL player agreement.
The 6-foot-1, 192-pounder was listed by the Pats during the 2017-18 season. He hails from Fort Collins, Colo.
The Pats play host to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday at 7 p.m. in a pre-season game.
Carol Lafayette-boyd of Regina won the women’s 75-plus 100 metres Thursday at the world masters athletics championships in Malaga, Spain.
Ted Rowan of Martensville won the 85-plus men’s decathlon, setting a world record.
The Saskatchewan Rugby Union men’s semifinals are slated for Saturday at Regina Rugby Park.
