HOROS COPE

- By Holiday

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2018 Lunar Action Sequence

Once you start moving, you really can’t tell what’s going to happen. Though if you don’t move, you can be pretty sure that nothing much will. The Virgo lunar influence forms various angles to major planets, spicing up the action for movers and doers with fortuitous lessons, fantasy-inspiring events and a profound coincidence courtesy of Pluto.

ARIES (March 21-April 19).

In school, we study for the tests to get the grade. Real-life relationships aren’t forged in tests. We make the grade through routine pleasant interactions.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20).

Games, awards or some kind of competition is featured. If you win, be gracious and brief. If you lose, the same applies. Either way, you’re likely to win a friend, acquaintance or at the very least, a new contact.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21).

Most people will go wide; you should go deep. Do the best you can do at the thing you do the best and you’ll be sprinting past the rest, making a name for yourself, carving out your unique niche.

CANCER (June 22-July 22).

You’ll be making things and presenting things. Perfection isn’t the point. Take a step back. What matters about this? What will people’s take away likely be? Speak to that. Any attempts at perfection are misguided.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22).

It’s not about going slow, it’s about creating a sustainable rhythm you can carry out time and time again, a steady march that will get you across the regions to where you want to be.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22).

It’s not always as easy as it seems to figure out what you really want and need because it’s different for every person. To see yourself and your needs more accurately is the start to attracting more desirable circumstances.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23).

You have charisma to spare. The challenge is in directing it well and handling the attention that comes with it. Which is the most appealing choice. Which is the kindest?

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21).

What you’re making isn’t for everyone, so don’t concern yourself with what everyone thinks about it. Cater your efforts specifically to the people for whom they will matter.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21).

The way to happiness will be very simple. Find what matters to you and get deeper into it. Learn it well, do it often, take your understanding and appreciation of it to the highest level you can.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19).

Love doesn’t always feel like love because it takes on so many forms. Some of the forms, for instance, the more truthful ones, can sting a little but you’ll still find them very worthwhile.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18).

Informal gatherings will be part of the fun. The conversation will be interesting, the food delicious. Plus, it will be satisfying to know that you can charm people just by being you.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20).

Let someone take care of you. You don’t have to be needy to do this, of course. People take care of one another in many different ways. Accepting a little help or tenderness is as good for the relationship as giving it is.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Oct. 6).

You will claim a fulfilling sense of community in the months to come, involving yourself in scenes that fit nicely with your worldview, interests and with what you have to contribute. Other highlights include a renovation of your domestic digs, a project that gets funded and being a major part of a loved one’s advancement. Leo and Aries adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 9, 33, 31, 2 and 17.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTIONS:

“I write stories, and print them out and send them to magazines and book publishers and people I know, and I post the stories on my blog. Well, no one reads them. Or rather, they read them (there’s a counter that tells me how many times my blog has been looked at) but they have nothing to say to me afterward. I am irrelevant. I feel like I’m turning invisible. What should I do? I’m a Capricorn, Virgo moon. -- Signed Cellophane Man.”

Do you know how many people there are who write stories and show them to no one? Give yourself props for being brave and for believing in yourself enough to solicit the reactions and opinions of others. And now it’s time for you to tap into your Capricorn business sense. Inside you is a master marketer. But you need to learn to target your audience. Join a writer’s group where you can read and share with other writers. Take a class where you can share and talk about your work. You need to find your flock. Once you’re mixing with birds of a feather, you’ll start to realize that you’re not invisible. You’re colorful, vibrant and more interesting than most people know what to do with!

CELEBRITY PROFILES:

Lovely Libran Carole Lombard was born on this day in 1908. The beloved star of drama and comedy was one of the highest paid in the 1930s. Lombard exuded the grace of Venus-ruled Libra, and her Pisces moon was an aspect to give a thespian a leg up. Pisces is the most empathetic of influences, and Pisces moon people slip easily into a character’s mindset.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2018 Moments by the Moon

Happiness can be found only in moments, not in years. That’s because though we live over weeks and seasons, we never live in them. We only live in moments. The efficient Virgo moon focuses on protecting the early moments of this day from the ravages of waste. The later lunar shift to Libra relaxes us into togetherness moments.

ARIES (March 21-April 19).

Maybe spirituality isn’t something you were born with but instead is like your style -- a thing you make up as you go by experimenting to find out what works for you and what doesn’t.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20).

Everything is evolving. You are getting wiser and more connected to others. There’s nothing profound in how this occurs. It happens over morning pleasantries, over a table or a text. It feels as natural as breathing.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21).

Coincidences are worth exploring. For instance, when you keep running into the same stranger, strike up a conversation. There’s most likely something interesting that brings you to the same places.

CANCER (June 22-July 22).

Some things can be safely delegated, and some just won’t be the same without you. Knowing the difference will be the key to your success. You’ll see progress; how deeply satisfying.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22).

Born under the constellation that rules the heart, you really thrive on a day like today, when love is the only game in town. And whatever form it comes in will be OK by you.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22).

It can be a huge help to have a teacher. And the best teachers are often obstacles, enemies and mistakes. Therefore, though it may not feel like it while it’s happening, adversity is highly beneficial. It’s the stuff of greatness.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23).

Everyone has their own idea about what an experience will be like. Enjoyment will be enhanced or diminished by these projections, so there’s a real benefit to getting ahead of this and figuring out what people expect going in.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21).

You won’t get caught up in the rush to join a particular quest, if for the simple reason that it defies your instinct. As a water sign, you are distinctively poised for the realization that you can’t miss the boat you’re already on.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21).

People who say “no judgment” are usually judging, just as people who say “you can trust me” are typically the ones you can’t. Today will represent rules, not exceptions.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19).

A friendly feeling fills the day. You can help people, and they can help you, so circulate and make your business known. You’ll create all sorts of opportunity for you and yours.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18).

Your role as an advocate and protector will be emphasized. You’ll jump to the rescue of a loved one’s feelings or interests, or you’ll proactively help a loved one show up strong in the world.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20).

You may encounter a nice storm of doubt, but it will pass like fast-moving weather. In the meantime, give as little voice to your fear as possible. Write it in a diary at most. You’ll be back to full confidence by evening.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Oct. 7).

New faces, romance and the development of important business connections will electrify your scene this solar return. Also highlighted: the arrival of long-awaited amends, a race well-paced and squarely won, and the hands-on training you once only dreamed of being able to afford. Capricorn and Virgo adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 9, 17, 14, 4 and 44.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

Bottom line up top, the tools we use to save time have made us ever more vulnerable to time theft. If you needed a reason to detach from your devices this week, the Mercury change will make a convincing argument for, at the very least, changing the notification settings on your phone. All interruptions take time -- not only the time they actually take but the time on the margins when you’re adjusting your attention and then readjusting it to get back into what you were doing. Once you understand the real cost of distraction and how long it takes to settle deeply into the sort of powerful mindset that allows people to do their best work, it will seem very expensive to leave openings for distraction, and the efforts taken to avoid distraction will seem more than worthwhile.

Mercury moves into Scorpio this week, which is a rich opportunity for deep work. Because the digital age has already altered our brains to help us cope with a constant barrage of distraction, deep work is becoming an increasingly rare state to achieve, yet it’s not complicated to return to the riches that uninterrupted contemplation and labor can bring. Mercury’s shift into the soulful profundity of the Scorpio realm is an omen to favor all efforts made to protect and honor serious concentration.

CELEBRITY PROFILES:

Simon Cowell is often accused of being heartless, though his natal chart reveals him to be quite simply pragmatic. His natal sun, Mercury and Mars are all in the relationship-oriented sign of Libra, which suggests that he does his best to make sure that his business and personal partnerships are peaceful. His outspoken Sagittarius moon spurs him to say what others might think but wouldn’t utter.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2018 Happiness and the New Moon

When they say that “your happiness depends on you,” how does that make you feel? Empowered? Bullied? As if perhaps even the most expert human doesn’t understand happiness very well? Probably true, and besides, feelings are never right or wrong. Give credence to your own ideas about happiness. Under this new moon, it’s anyone’s game.

ARIES (March 21-April 19).

Your warrior nature will be called out in a situation so ordinary and low-key you’ll be surprised at your own reaction. In Mr. Miyagi’s words, “It’s OK to lose to opponent. Must not lose to fear!”

TAURUS (April 20-May 20).

No matter how great your day may be going, there’s always a tiny part of your mind too aware that somewhere in the world someone is having the worst day ever. Instead of letting that bring you down, you let it help you feel grateful.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21).

Neuroscientists have captured it on film -- molecules morphing into memories -- so is it such a stretch to say there’s actual mass to what you remember? It will certainly feel as if that is the case today.

CANCER (June 22-July 22).

Social faux pas are easier than ever to make. An unanswered text or the wrong sort of social media comment could cause dissonance. Counteract by being more sensitive and conscientious than you think you need to be.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22).

Maybe the repetition of certain behaviors seems silly, but if it means something to someone, then its significance should be noted. Rituals matter to people -- unreasonably so! Don’t waste time negating this.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22).

The potential for fresh faces is high today. You’ve the space for a new friend to drop into your world. If the other person also has the room, things will develop very quickly. If not, it will be a slow-grow situation.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23).

Be aware that many don’t have the high emotional intelligence it takes to bridge gaps of understanding between people. You do, and you’ll be called to use this talent today.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21).

There are several ways out of the entrapment of false need. Being grateful for what we have inoculates us from a lot of superfluous needy feelings. So does differentiating between need and want.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21).

You’ll wind up in an unexpected yet enjoyable conversation. It doesn’t have to lead anywhere to add sparkle to your life. But if it does develop into friendship, that will be great, too.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19).

There is an exhausting amount of nuance involved in casual social relationships. The trick is to be sensitive to your place without putting too harsh a limit on your natural instinct.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18).

You’ve been the “mini-me,” and you’ve had a copycat of your own. These situations usually end in the same way -- with the realization that the similarities between even very similar people only go so far. Today is no different.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20).

There are times for listening, for talking and for saying nothing, just offering a compassionate heart and perhaps a hug. You’re sensitive to what mode is right for the situation, and you’ll lead with this understanding.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Oct. 8).

You’ll figure out how you’re uniquely strong and lean into that with gusto. You’ll dazzle the onlookers, among whom will be old and new connections. More highlights of the solar return: a long plane ride and travels that are the envy of your friends, a pleasing offering to elders, and part two of a key relationship. Cancer and Scorpio adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 10, 6, 40, 7 and 18.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION:

“How do you come up with the horoscopes? Do you guess? Do you feel the future? Are you psychic?”

After I read the ephemeris and pick out significant transits, I combine my studies about what these transits have meant to astrologers for hundreds of years with my current interpretation of these transits for today. I then take into consideration the nature of each of the 12 signs as I look at how they might be affected by the emotions and activities highlighted by what the stars are currently doing. Also, I look at how planets are aspecting (making angles) in each realm of the sky. Then I simply try to speak to the concerns, dreams and issues that each sign may be having for that day and give answers, encouragement and tips to help people deal with the obstacles and treats that I believe the day is going to bring. As far as being psychic and feeling the future, I believe we all have psychic ability that we are using to a greater or lesser degree. I exercise this part of myself regularly, just as a bodybuilder does when he or she lifts weights; therefore, my “psychic muscles” are fit, unlike my biceps.

CELEBRITY PROFILES:

Academy Award winner Matt Damon was an English major at Harvard until his acting career started to take off, causing him to drop out of the university. This artistic Libra has Venus, Jupiter and Neptune in Scorpio, indicating a strong intuitive sense. No matter how logical and intelligent an option may seem, Damon won’t take it unless it checks out positively with his internal sensors.
