Rescued man treated for smoke inhalation after north-end fire
One man was taken to hospital after a fire at a condo complex in north Regina on Thursday afternoon.
The fire happened in a suite on the second floor of a condo building at 6543 Rochdale Ave. Regina Fire and Protective Services got a call about the fire at 2:57 p.m.
Heavy smoke poured from the windows of the condo, as well as the roof of the building.
A man was rescued from the building by firefighters and transported to hospital by EMS, Fire Marshal Randy Ryba said. A Regina police spokesperson said the rescued man was being treated for smoke inhalation.
While firefighters battled the fire, Regina police blocked off a section of Rochdale Avenue.
The condo unit appeared to be heavily damaged by the fire. Ryba said the unit below the condo suffered heavy water damage, but the fire was contained to the one suite.
Firefighters were seen guiding residents into the lower suite to retrieve belongings.
Although firefighters got the fire under control, Ryba said it got into the attic of the structure. Crews were seen pouring water down into the building ’s chimney.
A fire investigator was waiting to enter the building to determine the cause of the fire.
“Once the crews get finished with their work we’ll be starting our investigation,” said Ryba.
