Pats looking to snap six-game loss streak

The Regina Pats’ longest losing streak of the season will be on the line Friday night when they continue an Alberta road swing against the Red Deer Rebels.

Regina (8-21-0-0) opened the trip Wednesday with a 6-1 setback against the Oil Kings (15-113-2), who handed the Pats a sixth straight loss while snapping their own five-game skid.

Riley Krane opened the scoring eight minutes into the contest but the Oil Kings responded with six unanswered goals, including Trey Fix-wolansky’s marker with just 13 seconds left in the first period.

Dylan Guenther and Vince Loschiavo added second-period goals. Carter Souch, Jake Neighbours and Matthew Robertson completed the rout in the third.

Goalie Max Paddock took the loss for the Pats, who were outshot 38-25. This weekend, Regina also faces the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday before visiting the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday. The Pats are back on home ice Dec. 14 against the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The Saskatchew­an Roughrider­s announced on Thursday the signings of defensive back Reggie Hall and linebacker Deon King, two internatio­nals who had practice-roster stints with the CFL team in 2018.

Hall, 23, was at the Riders’ training camp in 2018 and was released after the pre-season. The six-footthree, 208-pounder returned in October and spent six weeks on the practice roster.

King, 25, spent the final three weeks of the 2018 season on the Riders’ practice roster. Prior to that, the six-foot, 225-pounder had stints with Dallas Cowboys, San Diego Chargers, Indianapol­is Colts, Cleveland Browns and Jacksonvil­le Jaguars through two NFL seasons (2016 and 2017). He dressed for 15 regular-season games.

Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., enjoyed a 3-0 start at the Home Hardware Canada Cup curling event in Estevan.

Jacobs remained undefeated by edging Reid Carruthers of Winnipeg 5-4 in Thursday’s morning draw at Affinity Place.

Round-robin play in the men’s and women’s draws continues through Saturday morning.

Semifinals are set for Saturday at 2 p.m. (men) and 7 p.m. (women). Sunday’s finals are at 2 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. (men).

Drayden Ramage got the shutout and Ayden Third figured in each of the Regina Pat Canadians’ goals Wednesday in their 3-0 victory over the Moose Jaw Generals.

Third scored one goal and assisted on tallies by Cole Sillinger and Adam Kydd in the Saskatchew­an Midget AAA Hockey League game, played at the Co-operators Centre.

Ramage made 12 saves. Jaxson Taubert stopped 29 shots in goal for Moose Jaw.

Ty Enns scored the shootout winner as the Kindersley Klippers defeated the Notre Dame Hounds 3-2 in Saskatchew­an Junior Hockey League action Wednesday at Duncan Mcneill Arena in Wilcox.

Josh Fletcher scored both regulation-time goals for Kindersley. Kyle Robinson and Conor Maclean replied for Notre Dame.

Madison Hart of Regina has accepted an archery scholarshi­p from the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders, who are based in Columbia, Ky.

“It is an honour to welcome Madison into our program,” Blue Raiders head coach Mike Willis said in a media release. “I look for great things with her in our program.”

Hart is a member of the Wascana Archers and is coached by her father, Lee.
