It’s game on at Boards N Beans

- BY MICHELE TYNDALL

Boards N Beans on Rose Street is Regina’s original board game café. With a huge inventory of board games ranging from easy to challenging, there’s a game at Boards N Beans for everyone.

“We welcome everyone who comes through our door personally. We make sure they know how everything works, and we let them know that we are here to help them with their evening. Their comfort is first in our mind. Some may find the 400-plus games daunting so we always offer to help them choose a game – the amount of help we give them is up to them. Their experience while visiting is our priority,” says co-owner Carole Carman.

To play the games at Boards N Beans, there is a cover charge. It’s just seven dollars to play as many games as you want for as long as you’re there. For quick games there’s also an hourly rate. Children get a discounted cover charge, so it’s a great place to bring the family.

The variety of games might seem daunting, but in addition to recognizable standards such as backgammon and cribbage, there are unique multiplayer games that are easy to learn. The staff run game tutorials every other Thursday to encourage folks to try a new game. And while you’re there, they’ll help you out with any questions you might have.

“Our staff has played every game in the shop and will happily sit down with people to find out what kind of games they enjoy. We will make suggestions for new games they may wish to try and then happily teach the games. This way we try to make sure everyone has a good time based on their personal preferences,” says Carman.

Just like at home, sitting down with friends and family to a games night requires snacks. To that end, Boards N Beans delivers great coffee, quality food and more.

“Our menu although simplistic, is delicious. All food is made fresh when it is ordered, nothing is premade. Our menu consists of paninis, snack-sized pizzas, nachos and baking. Everything is made in house, by us. We also have a full coffee shop menu of delicious espresso drinks and excellent coffees and teas. For those who don’t like hot drinks, we also have smoothies, and an assortment of soft drinks. We are also licenced and carry locally brewed Rebellion beer,” says Carman.

International travellers, folks on a first date, families and businesses have all enjoyed the food, fun and games at Boards N Beans. Couples have even gotten engaged in the café, and invited the staff to their wedding. Boards N Beans has made a name for themselves in Regina, and are providing a special experience to residents that they can’t get anywhere else.

“Boards N Beans is a great fit for Regina because it offers a venue for you to sit down with your friends and family and communicate without electronics and social media dragging your attention away. We’ve worked hard to make a comfortable environment for everyone. We have such a huge variety of games that we can definitely find one that will suit any need. Everyone is welcome and we do our best to make sure everyone has a ton of fun!” says Carman.

At Boards N Beans, the goal is to make every customer as comfortable and as happy as they can be when they visit, and their unique combination of games and food are certainly making that a successful reality. To find out more, visit www. boardsnbeans.ca.
