MANHUNT AFTER ‘NAIL BOMB’ BLAST OUTSIDE BAKERY
A manhunt was under way Friday night in the French city of Lyon after at least 13 people were injured in a “nail bomb” blast.
The explosion was caused by what is believed to be a homemade bomb in a case containing “an explosive charge and nuts and bolts,” which went off at 5:30 p.m. local time, the interior ministry said.
The device exploded in the centre of France’s second-largest city outside a bakery.
Prosecutors have launched a terror probe into the attack.
According to French reports, police are hunting for a male suspect in his early to mid-30s who placed the case on the ground and made his escape on a bicycle.
An eight-year-old girl was reportedly among those injured but was not badly hurt. None of the injured are in a serious condition, according to the mayor of the second arrondissement of Lyon, Denis Broliquier.
Emmanuel Macron, the French president, confirmed there had been an “attack in Lyon” but no deaths.
