QC United ready for debut in United Women’s Soccer league

QC United, a Regina-based expansion team in United Women’s Soccer, is to play its inaugural match Sunday. The contest, against Calgary Foothills, is scheduled for 1 p.m., at Regina Rugby Park.

QC United is in the UWS West Division, along with Calgary, the Colorado Pride, Los Angeles Galaxy and Santa Clarita Blue Heat.

Calgary is the defending conference champion. QC United is the only other Canadian side in the 23-team league.

QC United’s regular-season schedule consists of eight games.

After Sunday, home games are slated for June 14 (versus Los Angeles, 7 p.m.), June 15 (Santa Clarita, 8 p.m.) and July 5 (Colorado, 7 p.m.). The final three home matches are to be played at the U of R.

Road games are set for June 2 (at Calgary), June 22 (Santa Clarita), June 23 (Los Angeles) and June 29 (Colorado).

QC United’s roster includes eight members of the U of R Cougars — Kylie Bolton, Taylor Bubnick, Jet Davies, Sydney Langen, Cassandra Longmuir, Lauren Petras, Nikita Senko and Karlee Vorrieter.

The University of Saskatchew­an Huskies are represente­d by Hannah Gannitsos-clark, Kalli Cowles, Payton Izsak, Taneil Gay and Maya Gabruch.

The roster also includes Brynn Nash and Madison Goertz, both of the University of New Brunswick, along with Claire Abrey (University of Memphis), Kaia Deane (Longwood University) and Jenaya Brown (FC Edmonton).

Hugh Dooley is the head coach and director of operations. The other coaches are Josh Hartl, Astrid Baecker, Dwayne Head and Rob Mccaffrey.

Naomi Isaac was the winning pitcher as Iskotew defeated the Thunder 6-2 in Regina Ladies Softball Associatio­n action Thursday.

Also on Thursday at the Douglas Park diamonds, it was: Aces 11, Bomb Squad 3; Thunder 9, Aces 2; Dakota Winyan 16, Pasqua 14; and, Diamondbac­ks 13, Lumsden under-19s 6.
