HAVE YOU WASHED YOUR PILLOW?

- Melissa Hank

If you think you’re doing your best Martha Stewart by washing your bed linens weekly, a new study conducted by British company Nanu could have you losing sleep. You could be just like a quarter of those surveyed who didn’t know you have to wash your pillows too, although not as frequently. While Stewart says most pillows should be tossed in the washing machine every three to six months to remove mould, bacteria and odours, 41 per cent of those questioned have never washed their pillows at all. And it’s not like they’re replacing dirty pillows with new ones — most respondents are sleeping on a pillow that’s over five years old, and one-fifth are sleeping on a pillow that’s over 10 years old. The Nanu report also found 20 per cent of those surveyed take their pillow with them on holiday and 10 per cent take them when they stay over somewhere.
