Saskatchewan Roughriders season-ticket holders will have the first opportunity to purchase tickets for the 2020 Grey Cup game, which is to be held in Regina on Nov. 22.

As of Thursday, season-ticket holders were able to renew their tickets for the 2020 season and secure their seats for the Grey Cup game. Season-ticket holders also receive $25 off for each Grey Cup ducat.

Tickets for the Grey Cup game go on sale to the general public on June 16. Hotel bookings for the Grey Cup in Regina will not be available until early 2020.

The Riders announced Thursday that tickets for the CFL’S championship game will range from $110 to $125 for the standing sections in PIL Country and from $199 to $475 for bowl seating.

Anthony Partipilo, the Riders’ brand officer, said prices for tickets were based on 2013 when the Riders last played host to the Grey Cup game. However, a key difference is that the 2020 Grey Cup game will be staged at new Mosaic Stadium, which officially opened in 2017.

“That was an old stadium and this is a brand-new stadium, so it wasn’t an exact apples-to-apples comparison,” Partipilo said during Thursday’s media conference at Mosaic Stadium.

“We wanted to make sure our average ticket price was in line with 2013 when you take into account inflation.”

In 2013, ticket prices were $149 to $349 for season-ticket holders and $179 to $399 for non-season-ticket holders.

“We wanted to have an affordable price point for fans to purchase tickets,” Partipilo added. “In fact, we have a lower price point than we did in 2013.”

The stadium will be expanded to accommodate approximately 35,000 spectators, an increase from the stadium’s current capacity of 33,350. Additional standing room is being added to PIL Country, in the south end of the stadium.

With expansion, the capacity of Mosaic Stadium could be increased to approximately 40,000. One of the reasons temporary seats aren’t being added is that it would mean closing the south concourse and PIL Country for six to eight weeks.

“That just wasn’t feasible,” Partipilo said.

The Riders and the Grey Cup host committee were also concerned about affecting the fan experience by adding more temporary seats. There were concerns about the concourses, concessions and washrooms being able to handle 40,000 people.

“There is a difference between having stands that are in the ground that you can push a button, a trap door opens and they spring up,” Partipilo said.

“That’s not what expansion to 40,000 means. It means the stadium’s construction is built to accommodate and situate the new stands. They have to be built, they have to be erected and they have to be put in. It’s a slightly different consideration than it would be if you could just push a button.”

It’s the fourth time that Saskatchewan has played host to a Grey Cup. The first was in 1995, followed by 2003 and 2013.

The last time was memorable because the Riders defeated the Hamilton Tiger-cats 45-23 at old Mosaic Stadium to clinch Saskatchewan’s fourth Grey Cup championship.
