Clermont enters Canada West hall

Jason Clermont on Thursday became the first member of the University of Regina Rams to enter the Canada West Hall of Fame.

Clermont starred for the collegiate Rams from 1999 to 2001 — earning conference player-of-the-year honours in ’01 — before beginning a 10-year CFL career, spent with the B.C. Lions and Saskatchew­an Roughrider­s.

The Rams are hoping to snap a four-game losing streak Friday when they face the UBC Thunderbir­ds at Mosaic Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Long-distance touchdowns

helped the Leboldus Golden Suns defeat the O’neill Titans 34-14 in Regina Intercolle­giate Football League action Wednesday at Mosaic Stadium.

Leboldus got a 99-yard reception from Jerry Wiebe and a 76-yard run from Ryker Frank.

Wiebe caught four passes for 149 yards and two majors. Frank, who rushed 14 times for 204 yards, added four catches for 59 yards and a TD.

Golden Suns quarterbac­k Christian Fischer threw for 301 yards and three majors.

In Wednesday’s other Schwann Conference game, the Campbell Tartans doubled the Miller Marauders 34-17.

The Tartans’ Payten Johnson ran for 181 yards. Campbell’s Kayman Mellor threw three touchdown passes, two of which were caught by Levi Hurlbert.

The Regina Pat Canadians

improved to 3-0 by defeating the host Yorkton Secon Maulers 6-2 in Saskatchew­an Midget AAA Hockey League action Wednesday.

Cal Caragata, Kyren Gronick, Carson Whyte, Josh Romanyk, Brenden Holba and Hunter Degelman scored for Regina. Mason Ziola and Rhys Maskimov replied for Yorkton.

The Pat Canadians play two weekend home games — against the Saskatoon Contacts (Saturday, 8 p.m.) and Tisdale Trojans (Sunday, 3 p.m.) at the Co-operators Centre.

Japnet Nana scored five

goals to lead the Laval Lion to a 6-1 victory over the Regina Christian Grizzlies in Regina High Schools Athletic Associatio­n boys soccer Wednesday.
