Greenall wins it all in Stewart Conference
Led by three touchdowns from Jonah Glas, the Balgonie Greenall Griffins defeated the Balfour Bears 47-14 in Monday’s Regina Intercollegiate Football League Stewart Conference final.
Glas rushed for 153 yards and two majors, one of which was a 75-yarder. He also scored on a 37-yard reception at a chilly Leibel Field.
“It was a snow bowl out there,” Glas said, “but when you’re playing football and the seasons change, you know you’re playing for something.”
Gage Olson added a 70-yard TD run for Balgonie, which got a 27yard interception-return major from Tate Olson. Colby Lang also had an interception.
Greenall is undefeated against RIFL competition this season.
“We’re a football program, so for us to bring (a championship) home for everyone on our team, it means a lot,” Glas said.
Next up for the Griffins is Saturday’s Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association 5A semifinal against the host Saskatoon Bishop Mahoney Saints.
“We’re looking forward at this point, but celebrating at the same time,” Glas said.
“The work is never done. You can’t get in over your head and celebrate too much. You’ve got to focus on the next game.”
The Yorkton Regional Raiders and Swift Current Colts are to meet in Saturday’s other semifinal. The winner of that game will play host to the provincial final on Nov. 9.
The RIFL’S Stewart Conference (6A) final is on Friday, 6 p.m., at Leibel Field, where the Leboldus Golden Suns will face the Riffel Royals.
