WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2019 Venus Rings the Buzzer

The last four weeks have been rife with power plays, shows of authority and political shifts. Now the timer ticks down to the last day of Venus in Capricorn, and here comes the buzzer. Make your move or let it go. Tomorrow Venus in Aquarius begins a cooling cycle when we can get a grip on heated feelings and learn emotional mastery.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You’ve an appreciation for history. Thinking backward helps you think forward. There will come a day when people don’t have to deal with the things you’re dealing with now. You’ll look back in amazement.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Don’t struggle with your choices. There is nothing for you in vacillation or fickleness. Instead, think of yourself as one who researches and observes until your choice is clear. You’re not indecisive. You’re just thorough.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Just because you know the same word definitions doesn’t mean you speak the same language. Slow down; doublecheck; stay aware of the other person. Then you can avoid the trouble caused by miscommunication.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). One person is embarrassed or offended by something that is no big deal to the next person. To fulfill today’s purposes, toe a straight line down the acceptable and middle lane of appropriateness.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Machines are broken when they can’t do the thing they were built to do. People aren’t like that. You can’t assume the brokenness of a living thing, because you don’t know what it was built to do. Living things transform instead of break.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). There doesn’t have to be agreement, similarity or a confluence of interests for things to work between people. Those things are a luxury. As long as there is respect and the acknowledgement of connection, coexistence is possible.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). The small works can’t be tended to in broad strokes. Too much would get missed. The large works require a mix of both broad strokes and attention to detail. So whether you’re working large or small, the small things will matter.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You have a way of loving another person that is purely for your own expression and joy. Then you have an entirely different way of showing your love that matches how the other person would prefer to receive it.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Attraction is the trigger that inspires you to flex your muscles of imagination. Wanting makes you resourceful. Needing makes you determined. Speculating makes you smart.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). In days of old, one had to go door to door to make connections. Now the doors are email addresses and the knock is a good subject line. Such things are worth spending time on to get right.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Longing is, to many, an uncomfortable version of love. Then there are those who actually prefer it, though they may not realize or admit this is so. Being at a distance allows for much fantasy and idealism.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). People can walk your path with you, but they can’t walk it for you. They can do a lot of other things for you, and you should totally make sure that they do today, as success will depend on deft delegation.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Dec. 18). You’ll gain from becoming more involved in your community, and you’ll find a niche that serves all quite well while making you the money you need for your next adventure. A sincere and devoted individual comes into your world. Work brings pleasure, and pleasure brings work. Aquarius and Scorpio adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 5, 25, 40, 12 and 39.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: “I’m angry that my husband, a Pisces, isn’t a better father. He’s not bad, but he’s far from good. He plays with our 4-yearold, but after about 20 minutes he’s on to doing what’s more important to him -- taking a business call, shopping online, watching television. He just doesn’t have great parenting skills and has no interest in developing any. I’m angry that he doesn’t take more of an interest in our child’s development, and I feel as though I am doing all of the work. It’s just not fair. Signed, Leo Mom.”

Your sign connects to children in a unique way. To expect others to have the same connection is unreasonable and a good way of setting yourself up for disappointment. Your standards are too high for him to fulfill, and he doesn’t want to. If he ever feels like being a better parent, it will be by his own volition. There is probably nothing you can do to make him more interested in parenting, although being angry with him is sure to make him less interested in being loving toward you. I write this to liberate your soul and prod you to move on from this losing battle. Celebrate what he does give, and find workarounds for his limitations.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Christina Aguilera grew up in front of an audience, from “The Mickey Mouse Club” to “Genie in a Bottle” and beyond. Sagittarians are usually more worldly than their years can account for, and Aguilera proves her sophistication by playing with media perceptions, changing her image constantly and producing vocals that can go toe-to-toe with any of the world’s best singers.
