World becoming ‘way too sensitive’

As a 17-year-old growing up in a world that is constantly changing, I’ve seen many things in this world but not nearly as many as most have. At this stage in my life I believe that our world is becoming way too sensitive in many respects.

Sensitivity is different for every individual. Something might affect one person but won’t for another and it has been like this forever, but I feel we are collectively too sensitive. This has to do with the way we are raised — parents now treating their children like friends instead of showing them how life really is.

I’m fortunate that my parents express their opinions openly, parent me with respect, and show me it’s OK to have different opinions. Once kids start working, they’ll see that the world is not as kind as their parents and complain because they don’t have any easy way out.

When I graduate and start a full-time job, I want it to be like it is on my farm and be able to joke around with my co-workers, respecting the lines I might cross. I don’t want to have to worry about my co-worker filing a report because I said something that was intended to be harmless.
