The Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) will be ready if and when the Saskatchewan Roughriders return to the field in 2021.

Tim Reid, REAL'S president and CEO, said Monday he's in constant contact with the Roughriders regarding their return-toplay protocols. The 2020 CFL season was cancelled on Aug. 17 due to the COVID -19 pandemic.

“When they are ready to play football and they have approval, we will certainly be able to respond as a facility,” Reid said at Mosaic Stadium during a media conference that marked the official closure of Iceville, a skating rink that was located on the playing surface.

“Our plans are in draft mode, but we are certainly ready if they want to play football in 2021.”

CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie said recently the CFL is committed to returning to play in 2021 with an 18-game schedule. Ambrosie added that the CFL is keeping its options open, including the possibility of a truncated 2021 season.

Reid is optimistic that there will be a 2021 CFL season.

“You can't walk into Mosaic Stadium and not think about a football game,” he said. “We want to have 35,000 fans at that football game and we all want to beat Winnipeg because that's what we want to see.”

RIDERS SIGN BOYKO

Saskatoon-born offensive lineman Brett Boyko has signed with the Riders, it was announced Monday.

Boyko joins the Riders after dressing for 15 games with the B.C. Lions in 2019. He was originally selected by B.C. in the second round (14th overall) of the 2015 CFL draft out of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Boyko, 28, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the NFL'S Philadelphia Eagles in 2015. He spent the 2015 season on Philadelphia's practice roster before moving on to the San Diego Chargers. He started one game in three seasons with the Chargers.
