Saskatchewan Party MLAS Greg Ottenbreit and Ken Francis will not seek re-election in 2024.

Nominations for the 2024 provincial election have been set for 11 constituencies, with more to be announced in the coming days, according to a tweet from the Saskatchewan Party's official Twitter account. In that same post, it was announced that Ottenbreit and Francis will not run again.

Ottenbreit posted a statement, saying it had always been his intention to only serve four terms as an MLA.

“This is a decision I made along with my wife when I was nominated for the first time in 2005, that I would serve a maximum of four terms if chosen to by the constituents,” Ottenbreit said in a tweet.

“Although throughout my career there are some things I would like to have done differently or better, I am proud of my accomplishments and content with my record,” he said.

First elected in 2007 Ottenbreit was the MLA for Yorkton. During his time in the role, he served as government whip, minister of highways and infrastructure, water security agency and rural and remote health.

“It has been an absolute honour to serve the people of the Yorkton area and province over the years,”

Francis was first elected in 2018 during a byelection in the Kindersley constituency and successfully ran in the 2020 general election.

He has served as legislative secretary for trade and export development and as deputy caucus chair.

Premier Scott Moe, in a statement issued by his party, offered words of thanks for the two MLAS.

“Greg and Ken have both been an important part of our government and our Saskatchewan Party team and they will be missed,” Moe said.

“At the same time, I'm excited about the MLAS who will be running again in 2024, and I know we will have a strong mix of experienced veterans and new faces representing the Saskatchewan Party in the 2024 provincial election.”
