Nine-kilogram fentanyl seizure one of largest ever for city police
Three people are facing dozens of charges after a massive drug seizure netted nine kilograms of fentanyl along with large quantities of other drugs.
While the Regina Police Service couldn't immediately confirm it was the largest fentanyl seizure in the city's history, a news release stated it is one of the largest amounts of fentanyl the city force has ever seized.
Members of the RPS drug and tactical support units executed a search warrant Feb. 16 at an address in the 1900 block of Saskatchewan Drive.
The search led to the drug seizures and two men and a woman were arrested.
“One of the male suspects was carrying a loaded handgun at the time of arrest,” the release notes.
Items seized by police included nine kilograms of fentanyl, a half-kilogram of carfentanil, oneand-a-half kilograms of cocaine, one kilogram of methamphetamine, more than $21,000 in cash, two guns and a baton.
“Nine kilograms of fentanyl is significant, as extremely small quantities of this drug can be lethal,” the release states.
Charged are 43-year-old Christopher Kenneth Gibson, 34-yearold Dustin Cole Wyspianski and 30-year-old Jazmin Amyotte. Each faces three counts of possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possessing proceeds of property obtained by crime.
They also all face multiple firearms-related charges.
In addition, Gibson faces a charge of failing to comply with a probation order. His charges indicate he was prohibited from possessing firearms at the time of the alleged offences.
All three were said to have made a first appearance in Regina provincial court on Tuesday morning.
