Two charged in second fentanyl seizure in city in under a month

-

Two men are facing charges after Regina police seized a large quantity of illegal drugs — the second such seizure in less than a month.

Christopher Ray Briltz, 38, and 51-year-old Brent Douglas Orr each face multiple charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and a charge of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime.

Drug Unit and patrol officers arrested the pair on March 1 in a vehicle in the parking lot of a business on the 500 block of Albert Street North, according to a news release sent out by the Regina Police Service (RPS) on Wednesday afternoon.

“Officers had reason to believe the two were involved in drug trafficking,” the release states.

It goes on to say a search of the vehicle netted a large quantity of illicit drugs, cutting agents, food colourings, mixing tools, heat sealers, weigh scales and packaging.

The release lists the drugs seized as: 4.5 kilograms of fentanyl; 850 grams of cocaine; 5.2 kg of methamphetamine; and one litre of Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (Commonly known as GHB).

Additionally, over $22,000 in cash was seized.

“Based on single doses, the current street value of 4.5 kg of fentanyl is approximately $1.8 million,” the release notes.

The Drug Unit is committed to holding “high-level” dealers accountable, according to Insp. Cory Lindskog of the RPS Investigative Services Division, who is quoted in the release.

“Arrests like this result in a disruption of the, often deadly, drug trade in our city by taking these dangerous drugs off of our streets.”

The two charged made their first court appearance Monday.

The seizure comes shortly after Regina police seized nine kg of fentanyl on Feb. 16.
