Rich­mond Hill jew­ellery thief ar­rested on mul­ti­ple charges

On Jan. 14, York Re­gional Po­lice of­fi­cers ar­rested a 25year-old Vaughan male ac­cused and charged him with theft over $5,000 and breach of pro­ba­tion in con­nec­tion with a jew­ellery theft in the town of Rich­mond Hill.

The theft took place at a jew­ellery store in­side Hill­crest Mall on the af­ter­noon of Nov. 3.

The ac­cused en­tered the store and asked to see a ring. When it was handed to him, he made off with the ring.

The ac­cused is be­lieved to be re­spon­si­ble for sim­i­lar thefts in var­i­ous jew­ellery stores across On­tario, with re­ported in­ci­dents stretch­ing as far east as Ottawa and as far west as Wind­sor. Po­lice re­port an es­ti­mated $100,000 in losses from the jew­ellery stores he tar­geted.

Af­ter ob­serv­ing the sus­pect’s im­age on video sur­veil­lance and col­lab­o­rat­ing with Water­loo Re­gional Po­lice and Peter­bor­ough-Lakefield Po­lice, York Re­gional Po­lice ar­rested the sus­pect in Vaughan. Any­one with ad­di­tional in­for­ma­tion about the thefts is asked to come for­ward to po­lice.
