Richmond Hill jewellery thief arrested on multiple charges
On Jan. 14, York Regional Police officers arrested a 25year-old Vaughan male accused and charged him with theft over $5,000 and breach of probation in connection with a jewellery theft in the town of Richmond Hill.
The theft took place at a jewellery store inside Hillcrest Mall on the afternoon of Nov. 3.
The accused entered the store and asked to see a ring. When it was handed to him, he made off with the ring.
The accused is believed to be responsible for similar thefts in various jewellery stores across Ontario, with reported incidents stretching as far east as Ottawa and as far west as Windsor. Police report an estimated $100,000 in losses from the jewellery stores he targeted.
After observing the suspect’s image on video surveillance and collaborating with Waterloo Regional Police and Peterborough-Lakefield Police, York Regional Police arrested the suspect in Vaughan. Anyone with additional information about the thefts is asked to come forward to police.
