Of bachelors, books and Beker

Richmond Hill Post - - Editor’s Notes - By Ron Johnson

I remember watching an old video of an interview with legendary punk band the Clash after their first concert in Toronto. Needless to say, things were broken, and the band was cantankerous, to say the least. But, one of the gutsy young interviewers, from Citytv’s New Music program, held her ground with Joe Strummer and his crew. It was impressive to watch, and that young interviewer was none other than Jeanne Beker who, of course, went on to become Canada’s top fashion personality.

Beker has been a fashion columnist with Post City for years. Every October, we feature the latest and greatest in the city’s fashion scene curated by Beker herself. Hopefully our Jeanne Awards will become an annual tradition.

In addition, this month we are happy to introduce a new columnist to our pages.

Dr. Jessica O’Reilly, a bestselling author and TV personality, will be writing a monthly relationship column focusing on relationships and how to keep the home fires burning bright.

Also in our life section, Rebecca Eckler finds out the latest trend in online dating geared to mid-lifers, and we profile Canada’s latest Bachelor, Tim Warmels.

Our food section includes reviews of two hot new restaurants: Montecito and DaiLo. And we also profile the group behind 416 Snack Bar and the new Peoples Eatery in Chinatown; taste test the city’s best turkey pot pie just in time for Thanksgiving.

In the arts, Post City columnist and founder of Yuk Yuk’s, Mark Breslin, pens a moving column on his life with the late, great comedienne Joan Rivers.

Also, we speak with acclaimed author Ann-Marie MacDonald about her powerful new novel, Adult Onset, and offer up our picks for the fall theatre season.
